Vehicle seating and interiors specialists Cab Automotive Ltd have secured a lucrative contract to supply military seating components to a UK customer who develop and provide highly complex protective seating systems, which offer maximum mine-blast protection for military personnel.

Cabauto will provide suspended graphite foam cushions covered in highly flame resistant fabrics.

Business Unit Manager for Special Operations, David Rose stated: “Securing this project for Cabauto was important to us not only as a new market sector,  but also to make best use of our skilled workforce who were responsible for the manufacture of our Defender seating systems.

Our client was looking to offer their seats with a modern automotive style and comfort, which had to comply with very strict flammability regulations.”

After supplying two iterations of prototypes over a ten month development period using CNC sculpted foams, Cabauto secured the volume order in May.

Rose continued: ‘We invested in lots of trim development time, requiring frequent trips to the client to effectively show them what could be achieved  with the latest trimming techniques from the Automotive world.

“We are also fortunate to be able to offer in-house testing facilities for flammability and indenter testing which allowed us to prove out the theory immediately.’

Cabauto are delighted with securing this contract, and hope that it will be only the start of a significant client relationship.
